KAL - February 2012 First of Month Dishcloth

Continuing on with the Dishcloth KAL, it's time to show off the first of the month cloth. I've had this done for a few days, but time for photographing it and blogging about it hasn't been available until today.

I also tried something different in my photo setup. The white background I use frequently is just a white foamcore board I picked up at Hobby Lobby. Typically, I lay it flat and try to hang over it to take the photo. The problem with that is I have to be careful about creating a shadow, plus, I can't always get a head-on angle and the item can look distorted.

When I blogged about the last dishcloth, I propped the board against the sofa cushions at an angle and had to work fast to get the photo before the cloth slid down. So, I thought putting a piece of felt on the board would fix that problem. I picked up a piece of felt at Walmart to try. It looks like it will be the solution, however, I'm going to stop by the fabric store and buy some felt off the bolt.

The cloth is named Linen Stitch Cloth and was designed by Janet Nogle. As always, you can find more information at the Yahoo! MonthlyDishcloths group.

Easy Fingerless Mitts

Earlier today I finished my first pair of fingerless mitts. Woot!! They will come in very handy due to the fact that I keep my house on the cooler side in winter in order to save money. I do keep it warm enough so my pipes don't freeze, but it's not a big deal to me to put on an extra layer to be warm. These will be great when I want to be crafty!!

It's really hard to be your own hand model. LOL!

The yarn is 100% wool from Manos del Uruguay. The colorway is # 107. The pictures give it a more blue-ish cast when it's actually shades of purple.

The pattern is Easy Fingerless Mitts by Maggie Smith. The link will take you to the Ravelry page. These were very quick and easy to knit. I really enjoyed working on them and will probably use the pattern again in the future.

TUSAL - January 2012

Today's the new moon so it's time to post a picture of my ORT (Old Ragged Threads) jar for the first TUSAL (Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long) of the year.

All that is currently in my jar is yarn from a scarf I knitted my niece, two dishclothes, some face scrubbies and reuseable cotton rounds. Didn't get any cross-stitching done, so I hope to add some embroidery floss next month.

KAL - Moss & Leaf Cloth

This morning I finished up the dishcloth for the mid-month KAL at the Monthly Dishcloths Yahoo! group. The design is called Moss & Leaf, designed by Andi Worthy. I think it's very lovely for a dishcloth. It was definitely fun to knit!

KAL - Side By Side

For a few years now, I have been a member of the Monthly Dishcloths Yahoo! group. Twice a month there is a KAL (knit-a-long) where for seven days, about 10 rows of a dishcloth pattern is posted daily. I've really only been a lurker, occassionally knitting one of the dishclothes.

This year, I decided I wanted to complete the year's worth of KALs. The KAL that started January 1st produced the Side By Side dishcloth. The group leader says the name comes from the cloth looking good from the front and the back.

Here is my Side By Side dishcloth.
